Maria Teresa Soldani - Author/editor, composer, researcher
Writing, editing, composing, and curating have always been processes at the center of my personal and professional life.
Contemporary history was the starting point of my higher education that led me to graduate firstly in music (B.A.) and secondly in cinema and electronic arts (M.A.). In between, my time was filled by music-and-film-making, and this is how I still imagine my daily: full of music, moving images, words, and discoveries.
Keep on working but never forgetting the passion for the research, I held a Ph.D. in History of Arts and Performing Arts with a concentration in cinema, film music, and popular music studies.
I am a research fellow at the University of Milan and an author-editor (in the last years in charge of the webTV and the Audiovisual Archive of Centro per l’arte contemporanea Luigi Pecci, and of multiple art documentaries for LaGalla23 productions).
VIDEOS. As author/editor I curate original video and audio contents about arts and culture, from the conception to the postproduction, with a special expertise in reconfiguring archival materials.
Fields of work: contemporary arts, cinema, new media, design, architecture, photography, books, food, urban and pop culture.
Productions: Rai Cultura, Triennale di Milano, LaGalla23, Centro per l'arte contemporanea Luigi Pecci, I Cammelli, Feltrinelli Real Cinema and Museo Nazionale del Cinema di Torino.
TEXTS. As a researcher in film, media, and popular music studies, I write articles, essays and video-essays, as well as reviews and specials about contemporary music on the Italian web-magazine OndaRock.
Area of interests: American independent cinema, film music, underground cultures, music scenes, Italian and American experimental cinema, contemporary visual arts, and pop culture.
MUSIC, Composer, arranger and guitarist.
Trained in jazz with a background in underground and experimental rock, I write film scores, soundtracking for silent films and songs for documentaries, feature, short films, and contemporary arts projects.
I made many original soundtracks for Daniele Segre’s film and radio documentaries, such as Lisetta Carmi, a soul on the road (2010), Luciana Castellina, communist (2012) and Michelangelo Pistoletto (2013), that were premiered at Giornate degli Autori-Venice Days at Biennale Cinema of Venezia, Torino Film Festival, BiograFilm Festival and PRIX Italia, as well as broadcasted on the Rai TV and radio channels.
